Linear flux observers for induction motors with quadratic Lyapunov certificates

International audience; We propose a full order Linear Time-Varying (LTV) Luenberger observer for the rotor flux estimation of an induction motor. Introducing a suitable reduced-order Linear-Time-Invariant (LTI) system that is always observable and controllable, we show that any arbitrary LTI design and its quadratic Lyapunov certificates can be lifted to the higher-order original LTV dynamics obtaining the same certificates. As a result, we show that arbitrary global uniform exponential bounds can be imposed on the estimation error, regardless of the rotor speed. Modeling of Zymomonas mobilis central metabolism for novel metabolic engineering strategies

Mathematical modeling of metabolism is essential for rational metabolic engineering. The present work focuses on several types of modeling approach to quantitative understanding of central metabolic network and energetics in the bioethanol-producing bacterium Zymomonas mobilis. Combined use of Flux Balance, Elementary Flux Mode, and thermodynamic analysis of its central metabolism, together with dynamic modeling of the core catabolic pathways, can help to design novel substrate and product pathways by systematically analyzing the solution space for metabolic engineering, and yields insights into the function of metabolic network, hardly achievable without applying modeling tools.
Quantitative study of cardiac wall motion from cine-MRI using frequency-based optical flow methods

The aim of this thesis is to study parietal desynchronisation of the left ventricle from conventional cine-MRI. The first part of our work consisted in the quantification of the left ventricle wall motion of the heart directly from conventional retrospective SSFP type cine-MRI sequences used in the study of cardiac function. The developed methods for measuring displacements within the images are frequency-based optical flow methods. These techniques seem to be particularly adapted to MRI specificities. Neutron and gamma flux measurements in designated positions in the test blanket modules (TBMs) of ITER will be important tasks during its campaigns. Investigations on self-powered detectors (SPDs), a class of reactor flux monitors are undertaken in the framework of an ongoing project on development of nuclear instrumentation for European ITER TBMs. This paper reports the findings of experiments performed with an SPD in flat sandwich-like geometry. Beta-eucryptite as grown by the flux method has been investigated by in-situ cold- and hot-stage transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Using electron diffraction and dark-field TEM imaging, we found no evidence for the merohedral twinning that accompanies structural collapse at the β-to-α-quartz transition, suggesting a true hexagonal symmetry for the aluminosilicate framework of β-eucryptite. Upper limit on the cosmic-ray photon flux above 1019 eV using the surface detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory

A method is developed to search for air showers initiated by photons using data recorded by the surface detector of the Auger Observatory. The approach is based on observables sensitive to the longitudinal shower development, the signal risetime and the curvature of the shower front. Applying this method to the data, upper limits on the flux of photons of 3.8 x 10-3, 2.5 x 10-3; and 2.2 x 10-3 km-2 sr-1 yr-1 above 1019 eV, 2 x 1019 eV; and 4 x 1019 eV are derived, with corresponding limits on the fraction of photons being 2.0%, 5.1%, and 31% (all limits at 95% c.l.). Abstract In the present paper a new method is introduced for the numerical solution of the stochastic collection equation in cloud models dealing with two-dimensional cloud microphysics. The method is based on the assumption that the probability for the collision of two cloud drops only depends on the water mass of each and not on the mass of the aerosol nuclei. With this assumption it is possible to reduce the two-dimensional solution of the stochastic collection equation to a one-dimensional approach. Greece belongs to the most geodynamically active regions of the world and as such, it has to be considered an area of intense geogenic degassing. In terms of carbon, the territory is characterized by the high hydrothermal and volcanic activity of the South Aegean Active Volcanic Arc (SAAVA), and by widespread geological seeps of buried carbon dioxide and methane. In the present work, we investigate the island of Gyali located in the volcanic system Kos-Gyali-Nisyros.
